THE southbound M6 is completely closed and two lanes of the northbound carriageway closed after a serious accident which left a car on its roof in the central reservation.
Emergency services were called to the scene at 10.50am on Thursday close to junction 28 at Leyland.
A number of people are believed to have suffered serious injuries and the North West Air Ambulance is currently on the scene.
Motorists have been advised to avoid the area if possible while accident investigators attend.
It is unclear how long it will remain closed for.
