Secrets of the Lancashire X-Files revealed

The latest batch of UFO sightings have been released by the Ministry of Defence.

From aliens with lemon-shaped heads to laser beams being shot to earth and alien craft sketches by a child, the Ministry of Defence (MoD) and The National Archives have published approximately 800 sightings from 1981 to 1996.

This fourth instalment consists of 14 files of reports, letters and Parliamentary Questions.

Many of them were filed in 1996, the year of Will Smith's heroics in Independence Day and the growing popularity of TV's The X-Files when UFO reports spiked from 117 in 1995 to 609 the following year.

In Lancashire, on March 28 1996, a report was made to police of a bright light travelling from Preston, towards Blackpool, above the M55.

It reportedly was moving from left to right, "with rays coming out of the edges".

The following day, on March 29, an ex-Royal Marine and four families saw "very bright lights high in the sky" over Morecambe Bay. They were moving "erratically up and down and side to side, disappeared then re-appeared in different locations."

The mysterious reports have been released as part of a three-year project between the MoD and The National Archives, aimed at opening up the records to a worldwide audience.

Back in Lancashire, on August 7 1993, a report was logged of a pilot spotting a "silver disk" UFO in the skies above although the exact location was omitted due to confidentially reasons.

It said: "The object was tracked by Warton (Aerodrome) and was said to be "high-speed".

Researcher Pat Regan, who set up the North West UFO Research project, said: "Are the authorities doing enough to investigate many of the abnormal things that are publicly reported in our air space that may pose potential danger to us?"

Pat is writing a book about the phenomena called UFO – The Search For Truth.

Anyone with UFO reports for possible inclusion in the book should email reganclan@hotmail.com
