Search goes on for violent prison escapee
Wanted: Ivan Leach, who also goes by the name of Lee Cyrus
Police are continuing their search for a violent prison escapee who could now be hiding in Scottish woodland.
Ivan Leach, 47, from Preston, who also goes by the name of Lee Cyrus, disappeared while on day release from North Sea Camp open prison in Boston, Lincolnshire, earlier this month.
Around 30 police officers have been involved in a search of woods at Kinnoull Hill, on the A90 Perth to Dundee road in Scotland after a man fitting his description was spotted by an off-duty police officer. Dogs and police helicopters were also said to be involved in the search, which started on Wednesday.
Leach is currently serving a life sentence for robbery.
He failed to return to prison on Tuesday October 9 and police believe he may have travelled to the Tayside area.
A spokesman for Lancashire Police said: “We are working with Tayside and Lincolnshire Police, as well as other forces up and down the country.
“We want people to keep their eyes and ears open and to report any sightings to us.
“It is possible he is sleeping rough and the nights are now getting colder.
“We are also scouring CCTV for possible sightings.”
It comes as the daughter of a 92-year-old victim of Leach told of her anger he was allowed on day release.
Kathlyn Jackson, who now lives in a residential home in Ashton, said she had to take diazepam and morphine after the attack.
Lancashire Police also revealed they are investigating reports two schoolgirls were approached by a man fitting Leach’s description as they sat at a bus stop at around 6.30pm on Lancaster Road, in Preston City Centre, on Wednesday, October 17.
The man is said to have made sexual remarks towards the youngsters and encouraged them to participate in sexual activities with them.
The girls got on the bus and reported the incident to police.
Leach is also wanted over the rape of a 23-year-old woman in her home in Perth, Scotland, on October 15 and an attacking following a robbery the night before.
Members of the public are warned not to approach him.
Anyone with information as to his current whereabouts or to report sightings since he absconded can call police on 101. Information can also be passed to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
