A stretch of the A59 near Preston was closed for more than four hours after a car knocked down a lamp-post.
Liverpool Road, near Tarleton, was shut between Bank Bridge to the roundabout at Carr House Lane from around 2.30pm to 7pm on Tuesday.
Police said the lamp-post was hanging over the road, which meant it had to be shut for safety reasons.
They said a Land Rover had spun off the road at around 2.20pm and hit the lamp-post.
The driver was not injured in the collision, which also damaged a road sign.
The car had to be recovered and exposed wiring from the lamp-post protected before county council highways officers were able to reopen the road.
