A reveller is seriously ill in hospital after being assaulted outside a city nightclub.
It is believed the victim, who had been out for the Boxing Day festivities, was punched outside Rumes night club on Church Street in Preston city centre.
He hit his head on the ground when he fell, causing an injury.
Police and paramedics were called to a bloody scene in the early hours of Friday.
Doormen were seen restraining a man.
The victim, thought to be in his early 20s, was unconscious.
Police said he is being kept under sedation in the Royal Preston Hospital.
Detectives from Preston CID are investigating the attack.
An 18-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of assault.
He is being quizzed by officers.
Det Sgt John Crichton said: “This is understood to have been an unprovoked attack outside a busy nightclub,
“We will deal with it robustly.”
