A beautician who found fame through reality TV shows has died at the age of 38.
Dawn Barry, originally of Farringdon Park, Preston, starred in one of the most memorable episodes of the hit Channel 4 programme Come Dine With Me.
Miss Barry became widely known after she hosted a party for three strangers from Preston in a bid to win a £1,000 prize, but fell asleep during dinner – leaving another contestant to cook her meal.
The nail technician, who family members said had been ill for some time due to alcohol problems, was admitted to Royal Preston Hospital on Tuesday morning.
She died shortly afterwards from suspected organ failure.
Her brother Scott, mum Kathleen and dad Ray Barry paid tribute to their “beloved daughter and sister”.
They said: “We loved you and we’re missing you.
“We miss your laugh and smile, your warm heart and your ability to light up the darkest of rooms.
“We hope your search for peace has now ended.
“Love you always, mum, dad and Scott.”
For many years Miss Barry ran Naughty Nails in Hawksbury Drive, Penwortham, and due to her success opened a second salon in Leyland Lane, Leyland.
She had previously worked at Nail Box in Leyland Road, Penwortham, and Barbara Yates Hair and Beauty Salon in Church Street, Preston.
The 2009 episode of Come Dine With Me showed Miss Barry, described as a ‘wannabe WAG’ and ‘hapless host’, hit it off with fellow contestant Nigel Evans, much to the annoyance of one of the other participants.
The self-confessed ‘fame-chaser’, who said her idol was Baywatch star Pamela Anderson, was also filmed in Ibiza as part of a BBC programme on Club 18-30 reps in 1999.
She starred in a Sky One show about the reunion of holidaymakers later that year, and made an appearance on Cilla Black’s Blind Date in 1998.
Tributes to Miss Barry, who used to live in Lostock Hall, were left on Facebook by family and friends.
One friend wrote: “RIP to Dawn Barry-So young and so sad! Xxx”
Another friend said: “Just heard some sad and upsetting news :-( rest in peace Dawn Barry. May you be free. Another angel in heaven taken far too soon. Goodnight god bless. xxx”
And one poster added: “Live everyday like its your last, the way Dawn did. I never knew anyone with as much life in her as she had. R.I.P xxx”
