Rain fails to dampen festival fun

The rain was falling as the parade set off but it did not dampen the spirits of youngsters at the Ingol and Tanterton Festival.

Taking the theme of song and dance, more than 100 children set off from the Holy Family Catholic Primary School, in Whitby Avenue, and jived up to Pool House Community Primary School, in Kidsgrove, for the main event.

The then rain eased and the funfair got into full swing.

Angie Turner, from community group Intag, said: "It was absolutely brilliant despite the weather. Everybody had a fantastic time – it was raining when the children set off on the parade but they still wanted to do it."

Meanwhile, the bellow of bagpipes could be heard ringing out as the Lostock Hall Carnival got into full swing.

The celebrations featured a colourful parade including infants from the Busy Bees nursery, youngsters sporting the Olympic rings and the Lostock Hall Community Primary School, who were celebrating their centenary.

A marching brass band, as well as bagpipe players kept the parade marching to the beat.
