Rail service launched

A new service has been launched for rail passengers to report incidents to the police via text.

The British Transport Police (BTP) has launched the 61016 number, which is designed to capture low level, non-emergency incidents, similar to the non-emergency 101 number used by local
police forces.

BTP deputy chief constable Paul Crowther said: “By encouraging passengers to report incidents via text, we hope we will get a more complete picture of the low level, but all too
common, incidents that affect people’s journeys.”
