A digital walk of fame could be created outside Preston’s Guild Hall as part of plans to transform the venue.
The idea is one of many being looked at by architects working with the building’s new owner, millionaire businessman Simon Rigby
Frank Whittle Partnership (FWP) is working with Simon to transform the exterior of the entertainment and leisure venue.
FWP’s team is in discussion with planning chiefs over its proposals and is looking to submit a planning application next month for the proposed remodelling of the Guild Hall’s frontage.
The plans include the creation of a new entrance, with a modern atrium that will breathe new life into the building’s underused first-floor balcony. There could also be new spaces for cafes and a giant digital screen. A giant, glowing colour-changing G would also form part of the new entrance and there would also be digital projections on the pavement outside and the possibility of a ‘digital walk of fame’ is being explored.
A new charity, Preston G.R.O.W.S will be established to give local retail entrepreneurs an opportunity to establish their businesses in a subsidised ‘incubator unit’.
FWP architect Seb Salisbury said: “We believe the design proposals we have come up can add a real longevity to the building and make it a real destination venue for Preston and beyond. The first floor balcony of the building is underused, certain areas are uninviting and potentially intimidating and there is a lack of a defined entrance area.
“Our plans address all these issues, and will create a striking new frontage with character, charisma and a modern outlook. It will draw people into the Guild Hall.”
