Preston pays tribute to fallen heroes

Standard bearers at the Remembrance Service on Preston Flag Market

Standard bearers at the Remembrance Service on Preston Flag Market

The Vicar of Preston, Father Timothy Lipscomb, led an emotional Remembrance Sunday service on Preston’s Flag Market.

At the 11th hour the Last Post was played and the city centre fell silent to remember those who had made the ultimate sacrifice in the two World Wars and subsequent conflicts.

Guild Mayor, Councillor Carl Crompton laid a wreath at Preston’s war memorial followed by representatives of the armed services and the local and wider community.

Services were held across Lanacashire, including in Chorley, Garstang, Kirkham and Longridge, to pay tribute to the local men and women who never returned home and veterans and current members of Her Majesty’s armed forces paraded through Penwortham before a memorial at the town’s war memorial.

* See Monday’s Evening Post for an eight page supplement on the Remembrance Sunday services.
