PNE manager Graham Westley steps down

Graham Westley has stepped down as manager of Preston North End.

Westley’s departure on Wednesday lunchtime ended a turbulent 13 months in the Deepdale hotseat for the man who joined them from Stevenage last January.

He stepped down after meeting PNE officials in London.

Westley left after securing just one win in the past 14 games, with the final straw coming in the shape of a 3-1 defeat on Tuesday night to Yeovil Town.

A hardcore of 136 fans travelled to Somerset with some displaying banners with slogans such as ‘Westley Out PNE’.

On Tuesday night after the game Westley bristled at the media after being questioned as to whether he would walk away from his post.

He said: “I think that is a real rude question. I’m a professional person and when things aren’t working it is my responsibility to do all I can to put things right.”
