Police have released a man without charge following the death of a 70-year-old woman.

The 44-year-old was held overnight after the pensioner was found dead in a house in Clayton Brook near Bamber Bridge at lunch-time on Sunday.

But a Home Office pathologist, who carried out a post mortem on Monday afternoon, found the pensioner died of natural causes.

A spokesman for Lancashire Constabulary said: “The death of a woman at an address at Carr Field, Bamber Bridge is no longer being treated as unexplained.

“Police were called to the address after a woman, 70, was found deceased.

“An investigation was launched, but a post mortem examination showed the woman died as a result of natural causes.”

Emergency services were called to an address in Carr Field in Clayton Brook, near Bamber Bridge, just before midday on Sunday.

Police said the 44-year-old man, from Bamber Bridge, had been arrested “on suspicion of murder,” but he was released without charge.
