Olympic gold medallist Rebecca Adlington surprised swimmers when she popped in for a dip at a Lancashire pool.
The 24-year-old from Mansfield, who won two gold medals at the 2008 Beijing games, visited Carnforth Pool on New Year’s Eve with her fiancé Harry Needs.
She posed for a picture with Philippa Darlington, who was also swimming that morning.
Philippa swims for Carnforth Otters and recently won an award at their annual presentation for ‘Best Newcomer’.
Jean Baines, supervisor at Carnforth Pool, said: “Rebecca was staying nearby for the New Year with family and friends.
“It was very unexpected and she surprised us all when she popped in for a swim!
“She was very friendly and happily chatted and posed for pictures.
“It was a great thrill for Philippa particularly as she is just at the start of her career, while Rebecca is at the other end, having now retired.”
The day before Rebecca visited Lakes Leisure in Kendal where she also met swimmers.
Carnforth Pool is situated in the grounds of Carnforth High School, off Kellet Road.
