The next Bishop of Blackburn Julian Henderson, has moved in to a home near Ribchester ahead of starting his new role this October.
Julian, 59, and his wife Heather began unpacking last week in advance of a busy autumn schedule, when the former Archdeacon of Dorking in Surrey will be consecrated as bishop by the Archbishop of York
The ceremony on October 10 is before Julian’s formal inauguration as Bishop of Blackburn at the cathedral on the October 19, and he said “Heather and I have already got a bit of a feel of the wonderful diversity of the county of Lancashire, but look forward to discovering much more now we have moved.
“Taking on this very senior role is a massive privilege and I hope to be a good steward of the trust that has been placed in me.” The couple have two children in their twenties, Susannah and Jamie. and he added “The support of my wife and children is really important. They share with me the sense that this is God’s call to us at this time and we must go where He sends and calls.
“I was ordained when I was 24 and have served in four different roles over the past 34 years. It has been a very exciting journey and I wouldn’t change it for anything.”
In the nine days between his consecration and installation Julian plans to travel round Lancashire to pray for the region he will represent, and later is to spend a full day in each deanery meeting people.
