New PNE boss within days
OUT: Graham Westley was sacked after losing three games in a row
Preston North End’s search for a new manager was well underway today following the sacking of Graham Westley.
The club want to appoint Westley’s successor in time for the visit to Swindon Town a week on Saturday, and a caretaker boss from the PNE backroom staff will be in charge of this weekend’s clash with League One leaders Bournemouth at Deepdale.
North End say they’ve had ‘25 to 30 creditable applicants’ for the job since news of Westley’s departure was announced, in addition to candidates already under consideration.
The impending appointment will be a permanent one and not a stop-gap until the end of the season.
Westley’s 13-month tenure was ended after a meeting with club officials in London yesterday morning.
North End lost their last three games under him – his swan song being Tuesday night’s 3-1 defeat at Yeovil – and are just five points clear of the relegation zone.
