West View climbing and leisure centre is set to be fitted with new state of the art gym equipment.

It will mean the Preston gym will close for two weeks from Monday. Members will be able to use the facilities at Fulwood Leisure Centre.

Fulwood leisure centre will house a new dance studio on a newly created mezzanine floor, meaning the squash courts will have to close for eight weeks, also from Monday.

There will also be further improvements in the lower floor gym.

The new equipment for both gyms, and the refurbishment so far, has cost £469,000.

Coun Tom Burns, cabinet member for culture and leisure, said: “The council is investing a significant amount in the refurbishments of both city leisure centres, and the creation of a much needed dance studio is another phase of the work.”

He added: “Whilst we apologise for the inconvenience that partial closures may have, I can assure people it will be worthwhile when it is completed.”
