Police investigating financial irregularities at Lancashire County Council have declined to comment on claims they are probing allegations that data was intentionally wiped from computers belonging to a company linked to the inquiry.
The Liverpool Echo learned statements were taken from employees of Liverpool Direct, who claim to have been ordered to clear data from laptops and mobile phones of senior managers.
Liverpool Direct is a sister company of One Connect. LCC originally alleged to police there had been financial irregularities relating to One Connect, whose former chief executive David McElhinney was paid £600,000 without the county treasurer’s knowledge.
A police spokesman said it was a “complex on-going investigation” and as such, would be inappropriate to comment further.
