New appeal for murdered toddler

Lia Green, the three-year-old whose death is the centre of a murder investigation

Lia Green, the three-year-old whose death is the centre of a murder investigation

A toddler was murdered in a violent attack, police have revealed.

Three-year-old Lia Green, of Norris Street, Plungington, Preston, died at the Royal Preston Hospital after falling ill at home.

A murder investigation was launched and her parents Richard Green, 22, and Natalie Critchley, 20, were arrested and remain the only suspects.

Police today issued a fresh appeal for information and revealed her death was ‘Definitely not an accident, somebody inflicted violence upon her’.

Detective Superintendent Dermott Horrigan who is leading the investigation said she had sustained significant injuries.

He said: “The injuries to her are internal organs around the abdomen.

“These are not injuries which cause instantaneous death but over a period of time.”

Detectives are particularly interested in speaking to anybody who may have seen her during the two days before her death on Thursday August 30.

They are particularly interested in hearing from anybody who saw her playing on a park in Brook Street, Preston, with her dad, sister and ‘another individual’, the previous day.

Anyone with information should call police on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111 or log on crimestoppers-uk.org/.
