Neighbours identify repeated bin fire suspect

Latest news

Latest news

Firefighters were called to four deliberate bin fires in two roads in a two-hour spell.

Crew manager Dave Gillon said fires were repeatedly started deliberately in domestic bins in Cedar Street and Grove Street in Morecambe from 12.30am to 2.10am on Sunday.

He said: “We had multiple bin fires ignited in a close proximity to each other, all of which were very suspicious.

“We’re in the middle of an investigation and we’ve got a potential suspect who the police are hopefully going to arrest and interview.

“We were going to one fire and putting it out and within a 15 minute period we were getting called out again. This went on for a couple of hours.

“People living in nearby properties identified the suspect. They saw somebody doing it so we know definitely that somebody was lighting the bins.”
