Police have launched a murder investigation following the death of a three-year-old girl in a hotel pool.
Officers were called by the Ambulance Service shortly before 11am on Thursday following the report of a child drowning in a swimming pool at the Dalmeny Hotel on South Promenade in St Annes.
The child, a three year old from Galashiels, Scotland, was removed from the water and taken to Blackpool Victoria Hospital.
She was later transferred to Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital in a critical condition.
The youngster died at around 8pm that day.
Detective Inspector Nick Connaughton from Blackpool CID said, “This is a tragic situation where a young girl has lost her fight for life following an incident at a swimming pool in a hotel in St Annes.
“We are now treating this sad death as suspicious and are investigating just how the child has come into difficulties in the pool.”
A 40 year old woman from Galashiels, Scotland has been arrested on suspicion of murder and child neglect.
She is currently in police custody.
