The death of a Leyland mum who was killed in a motorway crash was accidental, an inquest has ruled.

Sarah Gardner,a 39-year-old nurse who lived with her husband Andy and two children in Stanifield Close, Farington, was involved in the collision on July 28 last year.

The family were travelling back from relatives in Birmingham on the M6 toll road when the car Mr Gardner was driving was involved in a collision with another vehicle.

Mrs Gardner, who was chairman of Lostock Hall Brass Band and had been involved in other community groups such as the Brownies and the PTFA, was the front-seat passenger, and suffered serious head injuries.

She was airlifted to the major trauma centre of the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham, but died the
next day,having never woken up.

Nobody else was seriously hurt in the accident, including the female driver of the other car.

An inquest held at South Staffordshire Coroners’ Court last Tuesday recorded the accidental death verdict.
