Mark Menzies’ future as MP for Fylde could rest in the hands of his local party.

The 42-year-old Tory politician is now in talks with constituency officials after quitting as a Parliamentary private secretary three weeks ago following newspaper allegations about his private life.

Mr Menzies resigned as aide to International Development Minister Alan Duncan just hours before a Sunday newspaper published lurid claims about him.

At the time the Scot pledged to answer the accusations, saying: “A number of these allegations are not true and I look forward to setting the record straight in due course.”

But his constituency spokesman revealed it could be some time before a decision is reached on whether Mr Menzies will continue to have the support of the local party.

Mr Menzies has been active in the Conservative Party since 1987, but only became MP for Fylde in November 2010. He won the seat with a majority of 13,185.
