“We’ve been through hell but we’ve bounced back”, said Corinne Abram, finance manager of Walton Summit-based Pure Audio Visual Ltd.

Two years ago, the company hit national headlines after hard-up clerk Kirsty Lane stole £168,000 to pay for her lavish wedding.

The no expenses spared party at the Great Hall at Mains - featuring diamond-encrusted iPods, a celebrity chef and a free bar - aroused the suspicions of boss Peter Sutton.

A check of the firm’s accounts revealed discrepancies, and Lane and a police investigation was launched.

Lane was later jailed for 20 months after admitting to fiddling expenses.

Corinne said: “It was a horrible period for everyone. There were a lot of sleepless nights.

“The company only got £17,000 back, and everyone had to pull together and work very hard to get things back on track.

“At that time we had everyone ringing us, asking what was going on, and we had to make sure that we paid everyone on time, giving them reassurance that we were here to stay.”

Since the court case, the company has managed to recruit new workers, almost doubling staff numbers from 18 to 35, has moved to a new office five times larger than their original base in Talbot Road, Leyland, and has increased turnover by £2m.

To celebrate the company’s 10th anniversary, and its triumph over adversity, staff treated the four directors to a party at their base in Leach Place.

Corinne said: “We invited a lot of suppliers in as well as all the staff, and we had a buffet, helicopter rides for the directors and a photo station.

“It was a very enjoyable day. We wanted to thank everyone for their sheer support.

“The company has come a long way from its roots, when it was just the four directors working out of front rooms and garages.

“Eight years ago we took on our first member of staff, Mark Wilson, and he’s still with us today.

“We’re all very proud of the way our staff have coped, and even the new staff knew about it, and have worked hard to help us move on.”
