A motorway in Lancashire has been closed by a police with a woman threatening to jump from a bridge over the carriageway.

Police negotiators are at the scene of the incident on the M58 motorway at Junction 4 nearby Skelmersdale.

A Lancashire Police spokesman said the road will remain closed until negotiators have concluded discussions with the woman described as being “in a distressed state.”

Traffic diversions have been set up on the westbound carriageway at Junction 5 at Digmoor with traffic rejoining at Junction 3 for Southport, with eastbound traffic able to join the carriageway at Junction 4.
