A body found in a Lancashire field is believed to be that of missing mother Karen Simpson, police have confirmed.
Lancashire Police confirmed a body was found in a field off Marsh Moss Lane in Burscough at 10.30am on Wednesday.
A spokesman added the body was “believed to be that” of the 31-year-old who had been missing since the weekend.
Her disappearance had sparked a major search involving more than 100 officers.
The spokesman added: “Karen’s family have been informed and are being supported by specially trained officers.
“A post mortem examination will be carried out to establish the cause of death but at this stage there are not thought to be any suspicious circumstances.”
