Mike and Steve set for African trek
A North Lancashire duo are set to drive a secondhand 4x4 across Africa to help transport medical supplies.
Mike Willetts and Steve Dunstan, who are both from Morecambe, hope the vehicle will move basic health care supplies from Kenya to clinics out in the Ugandan countryside.
Steve, who works at the Heysham power stations, said: "A group of us have clubbed together to buy the Mitsubishi 4x4, which will be used to provide essential healthcare in one of the poorest places in Africa.
"In many ways that was the easiest part, as the drive from the port of Mombasa into Uganda will be a tough test, but we are really looking forward to it."
The adventure started five years ago when Mike and his wife Lin went to see the last remaining mountain gorillas in the wild.
They were inspired to carry out charity work after witnessing poverty first-hand as they walked through villages on their trek.
They later raised 4,500 to help the community and Mike went back to Uganda to see what he could do.
He founded a local charity called MACRO (Mukono Aids and Recovery Organisation) to help the community.
