Man spots something 'unearthly' in the sky

Strange lights in the sky sparked a flurry of filming in a Lancashire town.

A number of neighbours spotted the odd, glowing yellow discs, floating in the shape of triangle, late on July 29.

Martin Heald, 47, captured the mysterious scene, above Stanifield Lane, Leyland, near Preston, on video camera.

He found out other locals had seen the lights too when he posted the footage on the internet and discovered others had written accounts about UFOs they had seen at the same time and location.

Caretaker Martin, who lives with his partner Jennifer in Boundary Street, claimed: "They were really low, about 1,000ft. They were making strange darting movements, changing from an equilateral triangle shape.

"After about 10 minutes, they moved towards Preston.

"You could not mistake it for a plane, with the strange red glow and the movements.

"It was initially darting movements, not like Chinese lanterns which just float away.

"It was something unearthly."

A taxi driver named only as John also counted seven of the lights after dropping off a fare that night.

He said: "I stopped my taxi and watched. They were in a triangular formation.

"As I watched, they passed silently.

"Two of the three objects moved close together and headed towards the right of Preston, and the third towards Preston.

"I thought that was that but when I looked again, two more appeared over the trees."

Both men spotted a helicopter in the sky at the time, which appeared to be watching the darting lights.

Lancashire Police say it was not the force's helicopter, leaving Martin wondering who it was that got the best view of the mysterious lights.
