Man told doctor he wanted to kill

Jailed: Alexander Porterfield

Jailed: Alexander Porterfield

A man who told doctors and mental health professionals he wanted to kill a man he had a long standing feud with has been jailed.

Alexander Porterfield, 28, has been given a restraining order banning him from contacting the man indefinitely at Preston Crown Court.

The court heard Porterfield, of Avenham Terrace, Preston, has emotionally unbalanced and dissocial personality disorders but consultant psychiatrist Dr Lucy Bacon told the court she believed Porterfield made the threats as a cry for help to the authorities.

However, Dr Bacon said that although she did not believe Porterfield would carry out the threats he had made towards the man, he still posed a risk of violence to the man.

Porterfield has previous convictions for violence, including robbery and attempted robbery.

Judge Michael Byrne, sentencing, said: “For this offence of making a threat to kill you will go to prison for 16 months.

“I make the recommendations that upon discharge from custody the defendant should be directed to comply with any mental health community team or other body as directed to do so.

“If you do not comply the matter will be brought back to court and you will be returned to prison.
