Man punched in face and knocked to ground
Police have appealed for information after a man was repeatedly punched and knocked to the ground in an unprovoked city centre attack.
A 52-year-old man was walking along Market Street in Lancaster when he noticed a man and a woman arguing on Horseshoe Corner, the intersection between Penny Street, Cheapside and Market Street, at around 2am on Sunday, December 16.
As he passed them by, the man turned to see if the woman was okay, at which point the man who was with her lunged at him and punched him several times in the face, knocking him to the ground.
The offender was described as white, aged in his early 20s, with short, dark brown hair.
He was wearing a black jumper and jeans.
PC Sally Ward, of Lancaster Police, said: “This was an unprovoked attack and we need to find the person responsible.
“If anybody thinks they know who the man in the CCTV image is then I would urge them to come forward as we would like to speak with him in connection with this incident.”
Anybody with any information about the assault can contact Lancashire Police on 101.
Alternatively they can call Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111, or visit www.crimestoppers-uk.org.
No personal details are taken, information is not traced or recorded and you will not have to go to court.
