A man has been taken to hospital suffering from smoke inhalation after going into his burning home to rescue his dog.
Firefighters were called to the terraced house in Denville Road, Ribbleton, at 5pm on Sunday, after the man returned home to find the ground floor of the house alight.
A spokesman for Lancashire Fire and Rescue said: “The man went into the house to get his pet out, and as a consequence, has suffered smoke inhalation. We would never advise anyone to go into a burning house to rescue a pet.
“The fire was quite severe, but was limited to one room because doors in the house had been closed.”
A washing machine was completely destroyed in the blaze but the cause of the fire is still under investigation.
