Hearing: Chorley Magistrates' Court

Hearing: Chorley Magistrates' Court

A man has appeared in court charged with abducting two young boys in Leyland.

Vrujeshkumar Patel, 24, who gave his address as a flat in Preston Road, Blackburn, is accused of taking the boys, aged four and six, without lawful authority or reasonable excuse from outside an address in Leyland on Saturday lunchtime.

Appearing at Chorley Magistrates’ Court for a 15-minute hearing yesterday Patel, who was dressed in a brown t-shirt and dark trousers, spoke to confirm his name and address through a Hindi interpreter.

He is accused of taking the two boys while they were outside their home in the town on September 29.

The two youngsters cannot be named for legal reasons.

Patel indicated a plea of not guilty and his case has been sent to crown court

He was remanded in custody and will next appear at Preston Crown Court through video link for a case management hearing on October 10. No application for bail was made.

A committal date has also been fixed for Patel to appear on November 12 at Preston Crown Court.
