A motorist who caused a car crash when he strayed into the wrong side of the road has been fined £400.

Kayleigh Walker, 24, of Jubilee Road, Walmer Bridge, Preston, was driving a Fiat along County Road, near to the junction with Burscough Road in Ormskirk, when the incident happened on August 12 last year.

Walker was proved guilty in his absence at Ormskirk Magistrates’ Court of driving without due care and attention.

The court heard he “failed to negotiate a sweeping left hand bend and encroached onto the opposite side of the road, breaching the central white broken lines”.

Magistrates were told as a result “a head on collision occurred with a Vauxhall Zafira, which was travelling in the opposite direction, causing injury to both the defendant and the driver of the Zafira.”

Police said damage was caused to both vehicles.

Officers said it was daylight at the time of the collision, that the road surface was dry and that there were no high winds.

Magistrates handed Walker six penalty points and ordered him to pay £85 court costs and a £15 victim surcharge.
