A man has denied causing the death of a teenage girl by driving without due care and attention.

Mohamed Idrees, 31, of St Stephen’s Road, Deepdale, Preston, appeared at Preston Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday on a summons.

He will reappear before the same court on November 28 where it is expected he will have his case committed to the Crown Court.

Rebecca Smith died following an accident on London Way, Walton-le-Dale, on September 18 last year.

The youngster, who loved horse riding, was crossing the dual carriageway at around 9.50pm when she was hit by a Toyota Avensis, allegdly driven by Idrees.

Police and paramedics attended but the teenager, who attended Lostock Hall Academy, was pronounced dead at the scene. The road was closed for three hours.
