A man has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving after a 28-year-old Latvian national died in a New Year’s Day crash at Wesham.
Police say a silver Lexus car left the road, careered down an embankment and smashed into a tree, killing one of the occupants and leaving a second with pelvic injuries.
The collision happened at 7.20am on Wednesday as the vehicle was travelling along Station Road towards Kirkham.
The Latvian man, who lived in Wesham, was pronounced dead at the scene. Two others were taken to the Royal Preston Hospital, but one was later discharged.
A police statement on Wednesday evening said: “A 31-year-old man from Wesham has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and is currently in police custody.”
Sgt James Powell added: “This is an incredibly tragic incident and our thoughts are with the man’s family at this time.
“An investigation into the circumstances surrounding the collision is now underway and I would appeal to anybody who witnessed it or has any information which could assist us to come forward.”
