A man has made his first appearance at court following the death of a retired schoolteacher in a road crash.

Roy Holden, aged 58, of Argyle Avenue, Poulton, is charged with causing the death of Wendy Hartley by driving without insurance.

Holden appeared before magistrates, where he pleaded not guilty to the offence.

Mrs Hartley, a 63-year-old grandmother, of Cabus, who worked in the Preston and Garstang areas, was driving a Citroen when her vehicle was in collision with Holden’s 4x4 Suzuki.

The crash took place at an accident blackspot on Blackpool Road, St Michaels, on February 4 this year.

Firefighters cut her from the vehicle.

She died the next day.

Holden had his case adjourned to Wednesday October 3 by District Judge Jeff Brailsford sitting at Blackpool Magistrates’ Court.
