The driver of an articulated lorry had a miraculous escape when his vehicle smashed through the central barrier of the M6 near Leyland.
Police, ambulance and fire crews all raced to the scene, near to junction 28, to discover the wagon had crossed from the southbound to the northbound carriageway and somehow avoided hitting oncoming vehicles.
“It’s a miracle no-one has been hurt,” said fire brigade group manager Phil Cox.
“It’s amazing that he has crashed through the central reservation onto the opposite carriageway, yet he hasn’t hit anyone. No-one was injured.”
The incident, around Sunday lunchtime, caused delays in both directions as recovery workers removed the lorry from the motorway.
