Lancashire man hit by HGV

Accident in Coppull on New Road

Accident in Coppull on New Road

A pedestrian was knocked down and killed on a Lancashire road today.

At around 10:45am, police received a call to say a local man in his 40’s, had been hit by an HGV on New Road in Coppull.

The man has not been named as officers are still in the process of speaking to family members.

The road was closed for just under three hours for accident investigation to take place.

A police helicopter was seen circling the scene after the incident.

Traffic from Chorley to Coppull was being diverted along Birkacre Road and vice versa for vehicles travelling from Spendmore Lane.

Sergeant Sean Cunningham from the Road Policing Unit said, “We are trying to establish the circumstances around exactly what happened and would appeal to anyone who may have been in the area around the time and may have witnessed anything to come forward.”
