Warning: Judge Cornwall

A judge in Preston has warned people who download child porn to expect a knock at the door from detectives.

Judge Christopher Cornwall, sentencing two men arrested as part of Operation Toledo in Lancashire, said that if offenders were “under the belief the chances of detection are relatively slight, they shouldn’t continue to think that is the case.

“Anyone who enters any of these dreadful websites is exposing themselves to the risk of prosecution. It may not come immediately, but in the fullness of time it will come.”

Judge Cornwall handed out suspended sentences of four and six months respectively to John Linsky, 31, from Rawtenstall and John Wolstenholme, 56, of Burnley, after they both admitted possessing indecent images of children.

But he stressed the punishments were more in the public interest than short prison terms because they gave the probation service a chance to work with the men.
