A jealous boyfriend tore clumps out of his girlfriend’s hair after accusing her of flirting with a barman.
Ajay Passi, 27, attacked his partner on three separate occasions at the flat he was living in close to Winckley Square.
During interviews with the police the woman told how her boyfriend had seen her lick her lips while she stood at the bar in the Adelphi pub the previous night and accused her of flirting.
They began arguing and she left and went to a nearby takeaway where the row continued and they were asked to leave.
At home Passi launched a vicious assault on her, punching and kicking her on the floor.
When the woman said she thought she was pregnant, to try to stop the attack, Passi stopped kicking her stomach and kicked her head.
He took a knife and threatened to injure himself and tell police she had attacked him.
She also told police he had attacked her on two previous occasions, taking her car keys, throwing her property into the cellar and ripping her clothes telling her if she left she was going without clothes. During one attack she thought she was going to die.
The woman has now ended the relationship but said she has lost contact with friends.
Recorder Patrick Curran, sentencing, told Passi,of Teal Green, Fulwood: “The tragedy is you are an intelligent and I suspect a very plesant man when you are not affected by alcohol.
“You have real, real problems with anger, drink and violence and a very, very bad attitude towards women.”
He handed Passi a two year sentence, suspended for two years and ordered him to undergo anger management and alcohol treatment.
The woman said she did not want him to be jailed.
