Jail for man who took teenager to hotel for sex

A man has been jailed for three years after abducting a 13-year-old girl and taking her to a hotel for drink, drugs and sex.

Another man, who accompanied him, was given a suspended jail sentence for abduction after failing to distance himself from the situation he found himself in.

Mohammed Moosa, 24, of Holmrook Road, Deepdale, pleaded guilty to abduction and sexual activity with the young girl at Preston Crown Court.

The court heard on New Year’s Day Moosa collected the young teenager and her friend from her friend’s house and drove around Preston with the girls before collecting Faisal Ghani and driving to Blackpool.

The group tried to check into a hotel on the outskirts of the seaside resort but were turned away as they were drunk, too young and the young girl was dressed only in a pair of short pyjamas.

However later that day Moosa booked a room in the Travelodge in Talbot Square in the town giving a false name and address.

The group booked two rooms where they drunk wine, vodka, whisky and smoked cannabis.

Moosa and the young girl had sex although she told police she was too drunk to say either yes or no.

The girls were reported missing to police around midday after they escaped through the older girl’s bedroom window and their mobile phones were traced to the resort.

Hotel records revealed a booking in the name of Mr Patel which gave the address of an elderly woman, and police swooped on the hotel in the early hours of January 2.

Police went to one of the rooms booked, which was empty but littered with empty bottles.

Further down the corridor they heard loud music and smelled cannabis from another room. All four were in the room, the youngest girl partially clothed and wrapped in a duvet.

The men were arrested and the young girl told her friend’s mother she had felt feint in the hotel room as a result of the drink and drugs she had taken.

She told police she was “disgusted” by the sexual activity which took place.

Moosa pleaded guilty on the basis that the young girl was happy to go to Blackpool and was fully willing to have sex with him.

He said she was fully made up and looked older than her years, and said there had been no coercion or seduction. He also said the girl’s friend had told him the youngster was 16 although he actually believed she was about 15-years-old.

Ghani, 25, of Abert Terrace, Deepdale, admitted abduction on the basis he had not been present when the girls were collected in the car and had no reason to believe they were under 16. When they arrived in Blackpool and he gradually realised their young age he did not put any pressure on them to stay.

Passing sentence, Judge Christopher Cornwall told Moosa: “Drink and drugs were taken but there is no basis to say that they were plied in order to pressure her to submit to intercourse because she was already willing to consent…

“However much as she may have given her informed consent the simple fact is that 13-year-olds are entitled to be protected if not least from themselves.”

He sentenced Moosa to three years for the sexual activity and nine months for the abduction to run concurrently and handed Ghani a 30 week sentence suspended for 18 months with 150 hours unpaid work.
