An appeal against Preston City Council’s decision not to allow a house extension has been thrown out by a planning inspector.
The council planning committee said that the proposal to build both a two and single storey extension to the side of a terraced house in Fishwick Parade, would have a negative impact on the character and appearance of the area. In support of their appeal, the applicant highlighted two similar corner extensions in Coniston Road nearby.
The inspector said both of the examples were in surroundings significantly more open and spacious than that of the appeal property.
He said the development would “fail to appear subordinate to the host property”, and, by filling the existing garden, would “create an intrusive feature at a prominent corner location and be at odds with the more open character of the plot”.
He concluded the plan would harm the surrounding area.
