A Preston insurance worker could be facing a jail sentence after admitting fraudulent “insider dealing” at one of Lancashire’s biggest claims companies.
A court heard that Munaf Patel, 32, sold personal details of clients from the files of A1 Claims Solutions.
Over a period of seven weeks, it was alleged Patel was paid £1,500 for the information by a rival firm.
Patel, from Frenchwood Avenue, Preston, pleaded guilty to abusing his position at the company in Blackpool.
After it was disclosed he had a previous conviction for fraud, he was warned by magistrates in the resort that prison could be an option when he goes before them again for sentencing.
Patel worked at A1 Claims Solutions’ headquarters in Squires Gate.
The company, which handles vehicle accident claims, employs around 600 staff on the Fylde Coast.
The customer services advisor admitted he had abused his position by failing to safeguard confidential company information, which he passed on to another firm in the same field of business.
He also admitted he had failed to disclose information about himself, namely that he had a previous conviction for fraud, when he applied for the job at A1 in May 2010.
Before deciding how to deal with Patel, the magistrates asked for pre-sentence reports to be prepared, with all options available, including prison.
