£60,000 of cannabis found in tyre

A man who was arrested after £60,000 of cannabis was found hidden in a spare tyre in the boot of a taxi at Heysham port is to appear in court tomorrow.

Darren Clayton, 40, of Fordham Street, Liverpool, is charged with possession of cannabis with intent to supply.

Lancashire Police port unit officers were carrying out checks on vehicles bound for the Isle of Man, on November 23 last year, when a sniffer dog alerted them to the drugs.

Clayton will attend a hearing at Lancaster Crown Court.

Burglar pleades guilty

A man has admitted a charge of burglary after breaking into a pensioner’s home in Ashton.

Ronald Salthouse, 39, of Herbert Street, Deepdale, Preston, pleaded guilty to an incident that happened at Cottam Court between January 27 and February 2 this year in a plea and case management hearing at Preston Crown Court.

Salthouse will now appear at Preston Crown Court for sentencing on March 26.

Suspended sentence for drug drive man

A man has been given a suspended prison sentence for driving while under the influence of drugs.

Mark Edmondson, 47, of Woodville Street, Farington, was committed to prison for 12 weeks suspended for 12 months and ordered to carry out 200 hours of unpaid work. He was found guilty of driving whilst unfit through drugs, driving whilst disqualified, driving without insurance, and driving without due care and attention.

£80 fine for pet owner

A man has been fined for failing to pick up after his dog.

Mark Benjamin, 43, of Barn Meadow, Bamber Bridge, was found guilty in his absence by South Ribble Magistrates’ Court.

He was fined £80, ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £15, and court costs of £120.
