A man and his girlfriend were attacked by an out-of-control dog as they tried to stop it killing their pet cat.
Victor Wilding, 49, said he has been in tears since the suspected Staffordshire Bull Terrier ran into his garden in Livesey Street, Preston, and ripped one-year-old Chrissy to pieces in front of his eyes at 8.30am on Monday.
Mr Wilding said: “She was like my little baby and so friendly. She didn’t deserve to die like that.
“It was disgusting, like something out of a nature film, with blood everywhere.
“Me and my girlfriend Pat were trying everything to get the dog off her, and then it eventually came for us.”
The pair were treated in hospital for leg wounds, and have been put on a course of anti-biotics.
Mr Wilding added: “The dog warden should come round here more often to stop dogs like this running free and causing other problems.”
Police seized the dog under the Dangerous Dogs Act and it was later destroyed.
A police spokesperson said, “Local neighbourhood teams are making enquiries to try and identify the owner of the dog and so if anyone has any information about this incident or witnessed what happened then I would urge them to come forward and contact police on 101.”
