Hundreds of warnings given to premises
More than 260 warning notices and notices to improve have been handed out in the past year to restaurants, takeaways and other food premises in part of Lancashire.
Officers from Wyre Council carry out inspections on 1,240 food premises across the borough.
They rate them from category A, the highest risk, including large factories delivering food nationally and beyond, to category E, the lowest risk, such as newsagents.
In the past year, enforcement officers from the council have handed out 260 warning notices to premises and a further six notices to improve.
Three simple cautions were handed out and a further voluntary closure was put in place.
The commercial safety team undertook the inspections throughout 2011/12.
A meeting of the full council earlier this month was told that the council’s priority remains to focus on the highest risk categories of establishment.
