A woman was attacked and robbed by two hooded thugs on bicycles as she walked alone down a city street.

The victim, a 39-year-old woman, was walking down Farringdon Lane, Ribbleton, Preston, to visit relatives, when two hooded youths cycled past her and carried on down the road.

But as she walked past the Blessed Sacrament School the youths doubled back and shoved her against a wall.

One of the thugs then grabbed one of her arms while the other stole her light brown shoulder bag containing a pink Sony Ericsson phone and a black purse with bank cards.

The robbery happened at 7pm on Wednesday and the victim was left badly shaken.

DS John Crichton, of Preston CID, said: “She is pushed up against a brick substation, then the two males are stood either side of her on their bikes.

“One of the males pulled her arm while the other pulls the bag off her.

“After that the two males cycled off in different directions.”

One of the yobs is described as being aged around 18 to 20, six feet tall, with a thin build and dark eyes with bushy eyebrows.

He was wearing a dark hooded jacket with the hood up and a scarf covering most of his face.

The second attacker was said to be around five feet seven inches tall, with a medium build and was wearing a dark jacket, with a body warmer underneath.

He was also wearing a tracksuit bottoms with a stripe.

DS Crichton believes the distinctive bikes they were riding may help track down the attackers.

He added: “One of them was riding a mountain bike which was sprayed purple and the other had a dark mountain bike with white letters on it.

“We would also appeal to anyone in the area who knows people with bikes matching those descriptions to get in touch.

On Boxing Day a 14-year-old girl was set upon by a woman who stole her new BlackBerry mobile phone and cash from her handbag.

The woman dragged the terrified teenager to the floor by her hair and repeatedly ‘pummelled’ her.
