An armed robber has been jailed for six years and eight months.
George Montgomery, 57, of Bickershaw Lane, Wigan, was sentenced at at Preston Crown Court after pleading guilty to the offence at the Co-op in Bolton Road, Adlington.
Shortly before 6am on October 10, Montgomery following a member of staff into the building, then brandished a handgun and pointed it at the manager.
Montgomery forced the two members of staff to go into an office where they were told to open the safe and put the contents into a bag. In total, £650 in coins was taken.
Montgomery then cut the telephone cable with a knife and told the manager and member of staff to lie down. He left the building, escaping in a Ford Transit van which was parked nearby.
DC Phil Hampson of Leyland CID said: ““The sentence given reflects the severity of this frightening ordeal that they were put through and I hope that it can bring them some closure.”
