Fuller arrested after nightclub allegation
Former Preston North End striker Ricardo Fuller has been arrested after an incident at a nightclub yesterday morning, his club Stoke City have confirmed.
Fuller was accused of assaulting a 21-year-old man in the bar area of JFK nightclub, in Hanley, Stoke-on-Trent.
Staffordshire Police said the victim suffered minor facial injuries and did not need hospital treatment.
The incident, at around 1am Sunday, came just hours after Stoke's 3-0 Barclays Premier League victory over Blackburn.
A statement on the club's website, www.stokecityfc.com, read: "The club can confirm that Fuller was arrested in the early hours of Sunday morning following an incident in a nightclub in Hanley, Stoke-on-Trent. We will be making no further comment at this time."
A Staffordshire Police spokesman said: "At 1am on Sunday February 7, an incident occurred at JFK nightclub in Trinity Street, Hanley, Stoke-on-Trent, following which a 30-year-old male was arrested on suspicion of assault.
"He has been bailed pending further inquiries.
"The incident is being fully investigated by Staffordshire Police and any witnesses to the incident are asked to contact police on 0300 1234455."
The Jamaican, who joined Stoke in August 2006, is due to report back to police next month.
Fuller joined PNE in 2002 for 500,000 and scored 31 goals in 63 appearances before he moved to Portsmouth for 1 million in 2004.
Meanwhile Newcastle United striker Andy Carroll has been charged with assault today following an unrelated incident at a North East nightclub.
The 21-year-old, who spent three months on loan at Preston two years ago, is accused of attacking another reveller inside the Blu Bambu, on Newcastle's Bigg Market, in December.
Carroll, of Prestwick, Newcastle, will face magistrates in Newcastle on February 25.
