Flying the flag for the Forces
A special flag is flying from the Town Hall after Chorley joined other towns and cities in honouring the Armed Forces.
Representatives from the Royal British Legion, ex-Servicemen's Association and the Territorial Army gathered at the Town Hall to join the Mayor of Chorley in marking the first ever Armed Forces Day.
The Mayor, Coun Iris Smith, was presented with the flag by Deputy Lieutenant of Lancashire, Lady Shuttleworth, before it was hoisted high above the town.
Coun Smith said: "I'm delighted to be part of this ceremony as I feel it is important to honour all our Armed Forces. I am particularly proud of all our local heroes.
"My husband and Consort, Jim, served in the Navy for nine years so I am aware of the professionalism and dedication of the Armed Forces, both home and abroad, often in the most challenging circumstances."
Armed Forces Day, is being celebrated on Saturday, June 27.
The flag was raised at civic buildings across the country and will remain raised throughout the week.
