A councillor has called on owners to protect their pets this Guy Fawkes Night.
West Lancashire Borough Council has urged people to keep petrified animals indoors, away from loud noises.
And Councillor David Sudworth, portfolio holder for Health, Leisure, and Community Safety has appealed for caution.
He said: “Bonfire Night can be a lot of fun for humans but is a distressing time for pets, especially if fireworks are being set off over several evenings. Our tips aim to ensure that pets and their owners have a stress-free time.”
The council have asked owners to ignore loud noises, close all windows and curtains and mask the sound of blasts.
Deeply concerned owners should take their pet to the vets, not fuss over the animal and contain their emotions.
Sudworth wants animals to be kept in a secure and safe environment to prevent them from bolting during the celebrations. If your dog strays please contact the Environmental Enforcement Team on 01695 577177.
